Sundiata Kofi Gaines was born on April 18, 1986, in Queens, New York. He stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 195 pounds.

High School and College Career

Gaines attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York. He then played college basketball at the University of Georgia from 2004 to 2008.

At Georgia, Gaines earned Second-team All-SEC honors twice (2007, 2008) and being named to the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2008.

Professional Career

After going undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft, Gaines began his professional career in Italy with NGC Cantù. He then played in the NBA D-League for the Idaho Stampede, where he was named an NBA D-League All-Star in 2010.

Gaines made his NBA debut with the Utah Jazz in 2010. He played for several NBA teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors, and New Jersey Nets.

Following his NBA career, Gaines played internationally in countries such as Georgia, China, Turkey, Venezuela, Italy, and Israel. He was named an Israeli League All-Star in 2016.

In 2021, Gaines returned to professional basketball, playing for Peñarol in Argentina.
