Freddie Abuda was born in 1969 in Lawaan in Eastern Samar. He was a former Philippine Basketball Association player too. He used to play basketball during his college days in the University of Cebu.

This 6’4 weighing 200 lbs, was drafted by the Purefoods, which was then known as Coney Island Ice Cream in the second round as the 10th pick overall. He played around eleven seasons in the PBA, and most of the games he had played were with the San Miguel Beermen team. This power forward was nicknamed as the Scavenger.

This player having limited physical talent, played with hard work and a determination. Due to this, he made his mark as a vital role player on many of the championships that the team has won. Freddie was also known as one of the league’s best defenders and also a solid rebounder.

PBA commentators even said at one match that this athlete points were the result of his scoring on a follow up after a rebound of a team mate’s missed shot. This amazing player even has specific words which commentators use for him during the match. For instance, “ang sipag at tiyaga ni Freddie Abuda” which accurately translates to “the hard work and persistence of Freddie Abuda”. This describes his untiring work ethic.

During his trade from the San Miguel Beermen team to the Coca Cola Tigers team, some team mates even cried as they bid him farewell. This itself proves that Abuda was quite known as a humble yet simple man and was well liked man.
