Professional Career

Selected 33rd overall by the New York Knicks in the 1961 NBA Draft, Blaney played one season with the Knicks, averaging 3.3 points per game.

He then played in the Eastern Professional Basketball League (EPBL) for the Trenton Colonials, Camden Bullets, and Allentown Jets from 1962 to 1967. In 1964, he was named to the All-EPBL Second Team.

Coaching Career

Blaney began his coaching career in 1967 at Stonehill College, where he compiled a 26-19 record over two seasons. He then coached at Dartmouth College from 1969 to 1972, posting a 37-40 record.

In 1972, Blaney returned to his alma mater, Holy Cross, where he coached for 22 years, achieving a 357-276 record and leading the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

In 1994, Blaney became the head coach at Seton Hall University, leading the Pirates to two NIT appearances before being let go in 1997.

He later served as an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut from 2000 to 2013, contributing to two NCAA championships and six Big East titles.
