Marcus Haislip
Marcus Deshon Haislip is a professional basketball player from the USA and plays as a power forward. Haislip went to the Marshall County High School in his hometown, where he was part of the school basketball team, although without too much attention drawn to him. In 1999, Haislip joined the University of Tennessee and it was here that he came into prominence for his exploits on the court.
At the 2002 NBA Draft, Haislip declared and was picked at 13th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. In his rookie season, he only started the last 9 games and in those times, the Bucks went 8-1 and went on to clinch a playoff spot. However, once in the playoffs, Haislip was back on the bench with barely much playing time. Until the end of the 2003-04 season, Haislip’s place on the bench remained quite warm and finally, he was placed on waivers in November of 2004.
The Indiana Pacers decided to bring him in for the 2004-05 season and fill the vacant spot left by Jermaine O’Neal’s 15 game suspension. At the end of the 2004-05 season, Haislip moved to Turkey to play for Ulkerspor, now known as Alpella BK after not getting an opportunity with any NBA teams. Haislip played in the Turkish All Star Game and then in the Slam-Dunk Championship, a contest he won. However, there were allegations that he left the team, without authorization, to get back to sort out family issues in the United States.
Upon his return in 2006-07, Haislip signed with Efes Pilsen, one of the bigger names in the Turkish game. He returned to the USA at the end of the season, as part of the Turkish team, to play a couple of friendly games. Haislip was named as the Pollinica Trophy MVP for the year 2007.
He returned to Europe and this time, signed with Spanish team Unicaja Malaga. Haislip spent two seasons with the Spanish team and returned in 2009 after signing with the San Antonio Spurs.
