Aaron Olson used to play in the shooting guard position. He had a weight of 100 kg and height of 1.95 meters. His father was from Canada and mother was from New Zealand. While he was aged 4 to 10, he resided in New Zealand and later shifted to Canada.

Olson was a student of the University of Victoria and in 1999 moved to the Eastern Washington University. As his mother is from New Zealand, he qualified to play for the New Zealand national basketball team called as the Tall Blacks. He represented this team from 2003 till retirement.

In 2003-04, the New Zealand Breakers were incepted into the Australian NBL. From this point of time, he has played for this team. During the 2004-05 season, when the team lost to Townsville Crocodiles in Auckland, Olson posted a career high 40 points. In the New Zealand National Basketball League, he initially represented North Harbour and then shifted to Auckland Stars with whom he remained till 2005. In 2007, he retired from the game furnishing loss of interest as the reason. In his career, he played for Aanekosken Huima in Finland.

Olson won the Silver Medal in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
