Sergei Monia is the winner of the Gold medal at the 2007 European Championship as a part of the Russian National basketball team. He played for several teams like Khimik Engels, Avtodor Saratov, Khimki BC and CSKA Moscow before joining the NBA. During the 2004 NBA draft, he was chosen by Portland Trail Blazers in the 1st round. He was the 23rd pick and overall 23rd pick. On 23rd February 2006, Vitaly Potapenko (the center of Seattle Supersonics) and Monia were sent to the Kings and Brian Skinner (the power forward) was exchanged. This was a 3 team deal. On 28th July 2006, Monia was waived by the Kings as it was Monia’s wish to participate for MBC Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Super League. He saw action in just 3 games of the Kings.
