Sasha Kaun is a Russian former professional basketball player. He was selected 56th overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. Kaun spent most of his professional career with CSKA Moscow in Russia, winning multiple league and cup titles, before playing one season for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association. He became an NBA champion in 2016.

He also represented Russia internationally, including at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

High School and College Career

Kaun attended Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Florida, leading the team to a perfect 23–0 record and a state championship as a senior. He played four seasons at the University of Kansas (2004–2008), starting at center for the Jayhawks and winning the NCAA championship in 2008.

Kaun graduated with a degree in computer science and was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection.

Professional Career

Kaun was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics.

His rights were traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he began his professional career with CSKA Moscow. Over seven seasons with CSKA Moscow (2008–2015), he won five VTB United League titles, five Russian Professional League championships, and the Russian Cup.

He was named the VTB United League Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and twice selected to the All-VTB United League First Team.

Kaun joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2015–16 season. He played in 25 NBA games, averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. Kaun was part of the Cavaliers’ roster that won the 2016 NBA championship, becoming one of the first Russian players to win an NBA title.

He also played briefly for the Canton Charge in the NBA Development League before retiring in 2016.
