Sasha Kaun is presently a member of PBC CSKA Moscow. He has signed a contract of 3 years with this team as per which the team would pay him 1.6 million USD per year. After this deal was made, Kaun was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the 2008 NBA draft. He was the 56th overall pick. Further, his contract rights were traded to Cleveland Cavaliers. Although Kaun is permitted to pursue a career in Russia, if he opts to join the NBA, then the Cavaliers retain his rights. The roster of the Russian national basketball team had Kaun as one of its members, but he was substituted by Viktor Khryapa.

Kaun was a student of Florida Air Academy High School in Melbourne, USA. As a junior, he had an average of 2 blocks, 7 rebounds and 13 points per game. When he was a senior, he averaged 12.6 rebounds and 15.3 points per game. At the beginning of his college basketball career, he joined Kansas Jayhawks, the NCAA basketball team. He played for 4 years with this team and in 2008 won the NCAA title. He led the Jayhawks to a 23-0 record at the Florida Air Academy.
