High School

Nichols honed his talents at St. Andrew's High School, where he played under the guidance of coach Mike Hart. His high school career set the foundation for his future endeavors in basketball, allowing him to develop into a promising athlete.

College

After high school, Demetris took his game to Syracuse University, pursuing a degree in speech communication. He made an immediate impact during his freshman year, participating in 26 games and starting in 15. However, a back injury during his sophomore season limited his playing time, though he still managed to appear in 27 games. Nichols truly shined in his junior and senior years, becoming the second-highest scorer on the team as a junior and leading the Big East in scoring during his senior season.

NBA Journey

Nichols entered the NBA when he was selected as the 53rd overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 draft. Shortly thereafter, he was traded to the New York Knicks, who released him shortly after signing. He then joined the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his playing time was minimal. The Chicago Bulls later picked him up, assigning him to the Iowa Energy in the NBA Development League for further development. Nichols made his NBA debut with the Bulls on January 23, 2008, appearing in 11 games that season with a modest scoring average.

On the personal front, Demetris is the son of Janice and Dana Mallory. He comes from a large family, with a total of nine siblings: Dajona, Damon, Dana, Denise, DeShawn, Iona, Melik, Shenice, and Vendell Chappell.
