Bowie attended East Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He began his college basketball career at Seminole State College before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where he played from 1984 to 1986.At Oklahoma, Bowie developed into a reliable scorer and defender, helping the Sooners reach the NCAA Tournament.
Professional Career
Bowie was selected by the Houston Rockets in the third round, 66th overall of the 1986 NBA Draft. He began his professional playing career in 1986 and went on to play until 2002, primarily as a shooting guard and small forward. Bowie wore jersey numbers 25, 14, and 13 throughout his career.Bowie started his professional journey with the Quad City Thunder from 1987 to 1989 before joining the San Antonio Spurs in 1989. He then played for the Rockets during the 1989–1990 season and spent the following year with Ranger Varese in Italy. After another stint with the Quad City in 1991, Bowie joined the Orlando Magic, where he played from 1991 to 1996 and became known as one of the league’s top bench players, providing energy and timely contributions.
Following his time in Orlando, Bowie played for Olimpia Milano in Italy (1996–1997) and had a brief stint with the New York Knicks in 1998.
He continued his international career with Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania (1998–1999), where he won the EuroLeague championship, AEK Athens in Greece (1999–2000), Aris Thessaloniki (2000–2001), Fortitudo Bologna (2001), Near East (2001), and Ural Great in Russia (2001–2002).
Bowie’s career highlights include winning the EuroLeague championship in 1999, being named a FIBA EuroStar in 1999, and capturing the FIBA Saporta Cup and its Finals MVP honors in 2000. He was also a Greek Cup winner in 2000, a Greek League All-Star in 1999. He also won a Russian League championship in 2002, and a Lithuanian League champion in 1999.
Earlier in his career, Bowie was named CBA Most Valuable Player and earned All-CBA First Team honors in 1989.
