Marvin Gaye Williams Jr. is a professional basketball player from the United State of America. Marvin began his playing career at the Bremerton High School where, as a senior, he scored at an average of 28.7 points with 15.5 rebounds and 5 blocks & assists per game. His high school career was laden with awards at all levels such as the McDonald’s All-American team as well as the Parade All-American lineup and the All State team.
Williams was offered scholarships by a number of universities including Washington, Arizona, Kansas and North Carolina. He eventually chose to play at the University of North Carolina. In his first year with North Carolina, he played 22.2 minutes per game and had a scoring average of 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds. He was the sixth man in the Tar Heels and his efforts that season got him into the All-ACC team.
In 2005, Williams decided to put in his name for the NBA Draft in 2005 and the Atlanta Hawks picked him at second overall. The team was heavily criticized for their decision as players such as Chris Paul and Deron Williams, who were considered better, were left behind for Williams. Williams was selected to the 2005-06 All-NBA Rookie Second Team during the All-Star break.
Williams has been with the Hawks for his entire professional career so far.
