Academy of Holy Angles in Richfield was the high school that was attended by Bell. While in school he was Mr. Basketball finalist in Minnesota. Further he sought admission in Boston College where he won a conference player of the year award. He scored 2632 points and broke the record for the maximum points scored in Boston College history. In the sophomore and senior sessions he became the Big East Conference player of the year. During the 2003 NBA Draft he was selected by Boston Celtics in the 1st round as the 16th pick. He was further traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. During October 2005 the Oklahoma City Hornets signed him however immediately declared that he was waived.

During the first round of the NBDL draft in 2006 Albuquerque Thunderbirds chose Bell as the 12th pick. In the same year Bell was active in boxing. He signed up with Angelico Biella an Italian Serie A team for the 2007-08 season.
