Channing Frye is an American former professional basketball player who played fourteen seasons in the National Basketball Association. In 2016, he became an NBA Champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Channing Frye was born on May 17, 1983, in White Plains, New York. He stood 7 feet tall and weighed 255 pounds during his playing days. Frye is the son of the late Thomas Frye and Karen Mulzac-Frye.

His cousin is NBA player Tobias Harris, and his grandfather, John Mulzac, was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen. Henry Frye, the first Black Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, is his granduncle. Frye is married to Lauren Lisoski, and they have four children.

Frye is active in philanthropy, having established The Channing Frye Foundation in 2007 and The Frye Family Foundation in 2010, focusing on youth and community support in Portland and Phoenix. He also sponsors a charity kickball tournament in Portland. In 2020, Frye launched Chosen Family Wines with former teammate Kevin Love and others.

High School and College Career

Frye attended St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He played college basketball at the University of Arizona from 2001 to 2005, earning First-team All-Pac-10 honors in 2004 and 2005 and being named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team in 2002.

He was a McDonald's All-American and Fourth-team Parade All-American in 2001.

Professional Career

Frye was selected by the New York Knicks with the eighth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, becoming the first college senior drafted that year.

He played for the Knicks from 2005 to 2007, then joined the Portland Trail Blazers (2007–2009), Phoenix Suns (2009–2014), Orlando Magic (2014–2016), Cleveland Cavaliers (2016–2018, 2018–2019), and Los Angeles Lakers (2018).

He played a key role in the Cavaliers' 2016 NBA Championship run. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2006.
