Vin Baker did his schooling from the Old Saybrook High School in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. He later attended the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut where he played with the college basketball team called the Hartford Hawks. In 1993, Baker was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks. In 1997, after four seasons with the Bucks, Baker was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics who traded him to the Boston Celtics in 2002. Barker was a part of the US National Basketball Team that won the gold medal in the 2000 Olympic games held in Sydney. In 2004, Barker was released by the Celtics following poor performances and revelations that he had taken to heavy drinking. He was signed by the New York Knicks the same season. Barker continued to skip teams and played a year each with the Houston Rockets in 2005 and the Los Angeles Clippers in 2006. At the end of the season Barker signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves however was released by the team just after a month.

In a total of 791 games that Barker played in the NBA, he averages at 15.0 points per game, 1.9 assists per game and 7.4 rebounds per game.
