Raised in Detroit, his mother, Mattie Ager, was a doo-wop singer, and his stepfather, Melvin Rucker, was an architect and instrumentalist. After retiring from basketball, Ager became a record producer and has lived in China and Vietnam, where he ran basketball camps for children.

High School and College Career

Ager attended Crockett High School in Detroit, Michigan. He played college basketball at Michigan State University from 2002 to 2006. Ager led the Spartans to the NCAA Final Four as a junior in 2005, averaging 14 points per game.

In his senior season, he led the Big Ten Conference in scoring and was named Second-team All-Big Ten in both 2005 and 2006.

Professional Career

Ager was selected with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He played for the Mavericks from 2006 to 2008, with stints in the NBA Development League for the Fort Worth Flyers and Tulsa 66ers.

He later played for the New Jersey Nets (2008–2009) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (2010). Ager also played internationally for Cajasol Sevilla in Spain and for the Maine Red Claws in the NBA D-League.
