Richard Adelman was a professional basketball player with the Kansas City / Omaha Kings and played as a guard in the NBA. The Kansas City / Ohama Kings are now known as the Sacramento Kings.
Adelman attended the Loyola Marymount University and played for the college team called the Loyola Marymount Lions. He was drafted by the San Diego Rockets who are now called the Houston Rockets in 1968.
In 1970, after playing for two seasons he was shifted to the Portland Trail Blazers. After playing with the trail Blazers till 1973 he moved on to play with the Chicago Bulls. He played for the Bulls from 1973 to 1974 and with the New Orleans Jazz who are now called the Utah Jazz from 1974 to 1975. He retired in 1975 when he was playing for the Kansas City- Omaha Kings.
Adelman started his coaching career in 1977 with the Chemeketa Community College coaching the college basketball team from 1977 to 1983. He was appointed as the assistant coach to Jack Ramsay by the Portland trail Blazers. In 1989 he led the team into the playoffs. In 1990 and 1992 the Trail Blazers played the NBA finals however lost to the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls. Post the 1993- 1994 season with the Trail Blazers, Adelman was appointed as the head coach for the Golden State Warriors. He coached the Warriors for two years. In 1998, Adelman took over the Sacramento Kings as the coach and made them the most successful teams in the Western Conference. The appeared all the playoff games from 1998 to 2006 under Adelman’s guidance. In 2007, the Houston Rockets hired Rick Adelman as their head coach. Adelman coached the Rockets to NBA’s second longest winning streak with 22 consecutive wins. He is regarded as one of the most capable coaches of all time.
In his career total of 462 games as a player, Adelman averages at 7.7 games per game and 3.5 assists per game. In a total of 1233 games Adelman coached he helped win 807 matches and lost 508 matches.
