College Career

Nakia’s collegiate years were spent at the University of Kansas, where she balanced her studies in broadcast journalism and French with a stellar basketball career. As a member of the Kansas Jayhawks, she made her mark in the program’s history, ranking fourth in rebounds with 832 and fourth in career blocks with 89. Her tenacity can be seen in her playing time, as she logged 8,043 minutes and appeared in 128 games, placing her among the top players in several key statistical categories.

International Experience

After her time at Kansas, Nakia faced a setback when she did not make the cut for the WNBA. Undeterred, she took her talents overseas, playing in France and South Korea. It was during her stint in South Korea that she became teammates with Chamique Holdsclaw. WNBA Career
