Sunday, July 27, 2008 – There was a full slate of games in the WNBA tonight…. the last game for over a month as many of the players will be flying out to China to play in the Olympics.

The New York Mercury beat the Atlanta Dream, 86-76.

The Mercury got excellent contributions from their stars: Shameka Christon scored 24 points and Janel McCarville added 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Betty Lennox got back on the scoring track with 18 points for Atlanta, but it wasn’t enough and the Dream have lost five straight.

The Connecticut Sun beat the Washington Mystics, 82-60.

Asjha Jones scored 27 points to lead the way for the Sun. For the Mystics, it was Taj McWilliams-Franklin with 11 points and six rebounds.

The San Antonio Silver Stars beat the Detroit Shock, 76-65, and dropped the Shock from first place in their conference.

Becky Hammon scored 23 points to lead the Stars, and Ruth Riley and Ann Wauters each contributed 14 points.

Plenette Pierson of the Shock was still serving her suspension from the brawl with the Sparks a few days ago, and Cheryl Ford, who was injured trying to separate the combatants, also missed the game.

Deanna Nolan led Detroit with 25 points.

The Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Minnesota Lynx, 92-84 in overtime. The Lynx were unable to score a single point in the overtime.

Lisa Leslie scored 12 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help her team to the win. Candace Parker put in 23 points.

For the Lynx, Seimone Augustus had 29 points. Charde Houston had 15 points. Candice Wiggins is still out with an injury.

The Indiana Fever beat the Phoenix Mercury, 88-84.

Tamika Catchings scored a season-high 25 points to help the Fever beat the Mercury.

For the Mercury, Diana Taurasi put in 23 points in the losing cause, and Cappie Pondexter had 21.

The Seattle Storm defeated the Sacramento Monarchs 77 - 71. The Storm have the WNBA’s best home record at 13-1.

Sue Bird scored a season-high 24 points for the Storm, and Swin Cash added 13.

For the Monarchs, Scholanda Robinson scored 13 points, and Nicole Powell had 12 points.
