The WNBA suspended Detroit assistant coach Rick Mahorn and 10 players following the scuffle between a few players of the Shock and the Sparks on Tuesday.
The Shock: Plenette Pierson was suspended for four games, the harshest penalty, for initiating and escalating the altercation.
Assistant Coach Rick Mahorn was suspended for two games, (to the outrage of Shock coach Bill Laimbeer who believes Mahorn was trying to be a peacemaker).
Kara Braxton, Tasha Humphrey, Elaine Powell and Sheri Sam were each suspended one game for stepping onto the floor.
The Sparks: Shannon Bobbitt and Murriel Page were each suspended two games. After Rick Mahorn either accidently or deliberately pushed Lisa Leslie so hard that she fell, these two players each punched him at least once. (Punches that he did not return.)
Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker and DeLisha Milton-Jones were each suspended one game.
Because so many players from each team were suspended, those suspensions were staggered so that each team could suit up enough players for their next games.
