2011: The Year of the Point Guard

There are so many quality point guards in the NBA today.

There are so many quality point guards in the NBA today. Almost every team has a good point guard. There the stars everyone knows, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, and Chauncey Billups. But there are so many young and exciting point guards like Russell of Westbrook of the Thunder, John Wall of the Wizards, Johnny Flynn of the Timberwolves, Monta Ellis of the Warriors, Derrick Rose of the Bulls, and Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics.monta ellis What is the reason for all these great guards? There are a couple answers, but one trend in the NBA starting in the early 2000’s is the hesitation of teams drafting centers and power forwards at the top of the draft. In the last ten years, there have been far more quality gurads, than forwards and centers in the draft. For one , it takes big men linger to grow as players both offensively and defensively.. Also, it is harder to evaluate big men, bevause a lot of them are so raw, and still have not finished growing or maturing into their bodies.rajon rondo While the abundance of guards in the NBA has made for more exciting play, the teams winning in the playoffs are the teams with great big men. Even though guards are the story and highlight of the league today, having a quality center and/pr power forward is just as important to winning now, that it was 50 years ago.
