The 2011 Miami Heat are the worst thing to happen to the NBA in a long time. They poached two superstars from teams that adored them, and are showing a lot of arrogance for a team yet to play a game together.
Many people in the national media, particularly ESPN, are saying how the Heat will win more than 72 games, the current record for most wins in a season set by the 1996 Chicago Bulls.
ESPN is also saying the Heat have a great chance to beat the 33 game win streak record held by the 1972 Lakers, and that they will not lose more than 2 games in a row all year.
Well, everyone outside of Miami hopes none of this will happen.
The Heat, first off, are very beatable. They have no interior defense, no true center, and they lack a real good point guard.
Having a super team with 3 of the league’s marquee players is not a good idea for the NBA, for marketing purposes especially.
Having fewer teams with superstars, instead of a many teams with superstars, hurts the expansion of interest in basketball throughout the country.
If one area of the country has no teams with superstars, interest in basketball will diminish severely.
I hope the Heat do not win the championship in 2011, their success is only good for Miami. The NBA needs parity, and the Heat are hurting that.
