Basketball is a team sports, and multiple players must play well to win an individual game and an entire series.
In game 5 of the NBA Finals, Kobe Bryant took the offensive burden upon himself, and forgot about his teammates along the way.
Kobe scored 23 straight points for the Lakers at one point in the third quarter of game five, and even though his great production was helpful, his selfishness hurt his teammates’ offense.
Ron Artest, Pau Gasol, and Derek Fisher could not get into an offensive rhythm because they were not getting shot attempts, or possession of the basketball.
They were merely spectators watching Kobe do his thing.
The Celtics’ defense in game five was simply amazing, a defensive clinic, and they were content with Kobe getting his offense, as long as his teammates did little.
Kobe needs to get his teammates involved, because with the Celtics defense playing as well as they have the past few games, the Lakers offense cannot become a one-act show, or the NBA season will end on Tuesday with a another Celtics championship.
