If the Celtics want to win the NBA championship this year or next year, the key component to their Celtics will be Rajon Rondo.
Rondo is the energizer, his pace sets the Celtics for the entire game. When Rondo ignites the fast break, he makes other teams play off balance. Rondo’s pest-like one on one perimeter defending frustrates other teams and disrupts the opponents rythem.
Rondo and young Celtics center Kendrick Perkins are best friends, and their friendship has been apparent on the court. Rondo always knows where Perkins will be on the court. Both of their commitments to defense has immensely changed their games.
Signing Rajon Rondo long-term was key to the Celtics’ future. Without him, they have no one to play the point guard consistently. It would have been shocking if he was not re-signed.
Perkins’ contract is up soon too, and it is imperative Celtics general manager Danny Ainge re-signs him. The most important positions on the court are point guard and center, and the Celtics have 2 young improving stars at both positions.
