No franchise has more to look forward to right now and throughout this new decade than the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have a great core of young players yet to hit their prime. If OKC continues to draft well and spend money wisely they will have multiple championship banners hanging from the rafters in the next ten years.
Thunder all-star forward Kevin Durant is in my mind the best player in the NBA. A deadly sniper from the outside, Durant can also drive to the hoop with tenacity. He amasses great rebound numbers and his defense keeps improving.
Complimenting Durant is forward Jeff Green. A severely underrated player, Green is another all-around player doing everything for the Thunder like Durant. Green has range from the outside and an inside game. OKC acquired Green’s rights at the 2007 NBA Draft in the trade involving Ray Allen with the Boston Celtics.
Running the show at point guard is Russell Westbrook. Having played big games at UCLA, Westbrook has proved he can play at a high level in the NBA even with limited pro experience. This 2010 season has seen Russell become a triple double threat.
The Thunder need a solid, defensive center (what team does not?). While they only have about $12million to spend this summer in free agency, there will be quality big men to acquire starting July 1. The Thunder are the team of the future, filled with exciting players, an enthusiastic fan base, and an excellent young coach, former Houston Rockets guard Scott Brooks.
