Hornets replace Scott as head coach

Byron Scott, head coach for New Orleans was fired on Thursday, 12th November 2009.

Byron Scott, head coach for New Orleans was fired on Thursday, 12th November 2009. Scott was sacked right after the team returned back from Phoenix, where the team lost to the Suns in a disappointing game by 3-6. The team management has named Jeff Bower as the new coach who is also serving as the general manager of Hornets. Bower will be assisted by Tim Floyd, a former Hornets coach. Byron Scott>

The team’s vice president Chad Shinn later released a statement about the matter, “Accountability was our theme this past summer, we talked about the fact that everyone on our staff is held to a certain standard of performance and we didn’t feel this was happening at the head coach level.”

Scott has been with the Hornets since the 2003-04 season. Scott was named the NBA coach of the year for 2008, the same season that Guard Chris Paul led the team to a record 56-26 win. But the recent down slide of team’s performance has led to this quick decision.

Bower has been serving as a general manager for Hornets since 2005. He also served as an assistant coach at Marist and Penn State. Before joining Hornets, Floyd was working with the USC (University of Southern California) since 2005-06. He worked there under Jamaal Magloire and Baron Davis. Floyd will be working with the Hornets alongside the existing assistant coaches.

This season, the Hornets are helpless on court with the defensive and offensive both sides failing to gain momentum. Bower is expected to make quick amendments to the team to stop the down slide. The Hornets have dropped to seventh place in the Western Conference last season and are on to a bad start this season. All eyes are now on Bower to work his magic.
