Why this encounter was special?
Quicken Loans Arena was the venue of the game between Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic on Tuesday, 17th March 2009. This was a special game as these 2 contestants believe that now they have replaced Boston as the beast of the Eastern Conference. Also, this game featured LeBron James of Cleveland who may possibly become the NBAs next MVP and Dwight Howard of Orlando who probably may become the Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, the Cavaliers have the best home record of 29-1 in the entire league and the Magic have the East’s best road record of 23-10. This game was very dramatic and eventually, the Cavaliers won by a 97-93 record.
Highlights of the game
Some of the important aspects of the match were as follows –
James buried an off-balance 3 due to which Cleveland had a 95-92 lead. Soon after this, during the last 10 seconds of the game, Howard was whistled for a 3 second violation.
Williams missed 2 continuous free throws when the game was still balance in the 4th quarter. This was not expected from a player who in this season is hitting 93 percent from the line and 94 percent since the All-Star Break.
Howard finished this game with 13 points and 15 boards. Astonishingly, in the 4th quarter, the Cleveland defense held him to zero shots. As a matter of fact, Howard, in the complete night, completed just 8 shots. Surprisingly, one of the shots was stuffed back in his face by Anderson Varejao, the Cleveland forward.
Mo Williams, the point guard of Cleveland, recorded 21 points and 4 rebounds. During the 2nd quarter, he single-handedly fought off every Magic run. He scored 9 consecutive points on an array of 3-point bombs, mid-range jumpers and floaters in the lane.
