Japan national baseball team represents the nation of Japan in international baseball competitions and uses the nickname ‘Samurai’, as a symbol of Japanese history.

Japan has been very successful throughout, having won the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009, and is ranked 4th in the world based on the International Baseball Federation rankings.

The Japan national baseball team includes amateur players, players from the Nippon Professional Baseball and Japanese players from Major League Baseball.

Domestic Achievements

Japan has seen success in the Asian Baseball Championship since it was formed, and also dominated the Asian Games in baseball.

World Baseball Classic

Japan has won the 2006 & 2009 World Baseball Classic, defeating Cuba and South Korea in the finals respectively.

Other Achievements

Japan debuted in the Olympics in 1992 and has participated regularly, coming second best in 1996. The team has made 15 World Cup appearances and came second best in 1982. In the Intercontinental Cup, Japan won the gold medal twice in 1973 & 1997.

Japan will be participating in the 2009 Baseball World Cup to be held in Europe.
