Joshua Eric Towers is a professional baseball player from the USA who plays as a pitcher. Towers was picked at the 1996 MLB Amateur Draft in 2001, by the Baltimore Orioles, in the 15th round of the draft. Playing through the minor league affiliates, Towers made his MLB debut in 2001, recording an 8-10 record with a 4.49 ERA in 140.1 innings.

In 2002, Towers began the season with the MLB team but 3 straight losses in his first three games, 11 home runs in his first 5 later, he was sent back to the minor leagues for the remainder of the season.

In 2003, Towers ended his contract with the Orioles and as a free agent, joined the Toronto Blue Jays in the minor leagues. Towers joined the Blue Jays midway through the season and thereafter, had a wonderful run to an 8-1 record in 14 games with 8 starts. His 4.48 ERA made him the fifth starter for the Blue Jays in 2004, a season where Towers had an average performance.

In 21 games for the Blue Jays, Towers had a 9-9 record with a 5.11 ERA. The following year however, an injury to Roy Halladay meant that Towers would be the sole dependable pillar of strength for the Blue Jays when it came to the pitching department. Towers took this responsibility head-on, getting a 13-wins season with a 3.71 ERA in 208.2 innings pitched.

With a new contract, Towers was tied to the Toronto franchise for another two years. However, he began 2006 in horrific style, going 0-7 in 7 starts, at an ERA of 10.09.

By May, Towers’ season had gone bad enough to push him down to the Syracuse Chiefs in the AAA-League but a couple of months later, he was back to continue the poor form in the Majors. 7 days after his callup, he was sent back down again.

Towers decided to follow up the 2006 season with some off-season training alongside Reed Johnson. Towers regained some of his old form during Spring Training and was named as the final starter for the Blue Jays’ 2007 season.

Victor Zambrano would replace Towers in the starting rotation after he failed to prevent a third loss to the Texas Rangers. A run-in with the Yankees saw him lose concentration and give away another win to the opposing team. The Blue Jays had had enough of Towers and for the second time in the season, he was pushed out of the starting rotation.

In 2008, Towers moved to the Colorado Rockies for a single-year deal. After 4 months at the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, in the AAA-League, Towers kicked away his chance of playing with the Rockies when he gave away 7 RBI and 2 home runs in the second innings, against the Oklahoma RedHawks.

Towers was out of contract at the end of the season and signed with the Washington Nationals in January of 2009. He was sent down to the Syracuse Chiefs for the initial part of the season before being released in May. A few days after his release, Towers signed with the New York Yankees and played for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Despite getting a call-up to the Yankees roster in 2009, he was designated for assignment after the Yankees got Chad Gaudin on board. However, in September 2009, Towers was recalled to the Yankees for some relief pitching and became the 1,500th player to play for the New York Yankees in an official game.

In December 2009, Towers signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
