Luis Rivas
Luis Wilfredo Rivas is a professional baseball player from Venezuela who plays as an second baseman. Rivas began playing in the United States with the Minnesota Twins in 2000. He stayed with the team for 6 seasons and gained the reputation of being a free-swinging hitter who often puts many pitches into play. In his first 5 seasons with the Twins, he had a .262 batting average with 29 home runs and 165 RBIs in 506 appearances.
Rivas was considered to be a future prospect but his inconsistent hitting meant that he was optioned out to the AAA-league affiliate, Rochester Red Wings. In 2006, Rivas played for the Durham Bulls in the International League and had a disappointing .218 batting average. In 2007, he decided to sign a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians and began playing in the AAA-league with the Buffalo Bisons. He played 105 games and batted at .263 and when the MLB rosters were expanded, he was called up in September. However, three months later, Rivas decided to sign another minor league contract, this time with the Pittsburgh Pirates that saw him through 2008.
In 2009, he signed another minor league contract, this time with the Chicago Cubs.
