Career
Young's baseball career took off after he opted to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara, despite being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1994. His skills were soon recognized by the Toronto Blue Jays, who selected him in the fifth round of the 1997 MLB Draft. After progressing through various minor league teams, including the Tennessee Smokies and Oklahoma RedHawks, Young was traded to the Rangers in 2000. He made his major league debut with Texas on September 29, 2000, and quickly became a fan favorite.In the years that followed, Young established himself as one of the premier shortstops in the game.
