Career
Johjima began his journey in baseball at Beppudai Fuzoku High School before being drafted in 1999 by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. Over seven seasons with the Hawks, he established himself as one of the top catchers in the Pacific League, earning seven All-Star selections and multiple Gold Glove awards. His impressive defensive statistics included a .993 fielding average and a remarkable 376 caught stealing percentage.In November 2005, Johjima signed a lucrative three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Seattle Mariners. He made his MLB debut in 2006, where he quickly set the record for most hits by a rookie catcher with 147 hits, showcasing his ability to adapt to the higher level of competition.
