Marcus Thames

Marcus Markey Thames was born March 6, 1977 in Louisville, Mississippi. He plays first base for the Detroit Tigers.

Marcus weighs 6’ 2”, weighs 220 pounds, and bats and throws right.

High School Marcus attended East Central Junior College in Mississippi. College Marcus attended East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi,

Minor Leagues Marcus was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 30th Round of the 1996 amateur draft.

Major Leagues Marcus has bounced up and down between the minors and majors. He played 7 games for the Yankees in 2002, 30 games for Texas in 2003, 61 games for the Tigers in 2004, 38 for the Tigers in 2005, 110 in 2006, amd 86 in 2007.

To date in 2008, he is on the roster and has played in 75 games.

Personal Marcus’ mother, Veterine, has been paralyzed since an auto accident when Marcus was five years old.

Marcus and his wife have a child, a girl they named Jade. He also has another daughter, Deja (born in 1997), from a previous relationship.

Thames served in the National Guard from 1994 to 1998.

He has been called “Slick” since he was four years old, when he got an overly-aggressive haircut.
