Marcus Markey Thames was born March 6, 1977 in Louisville, Mississippi. He plays first base for the Detroit Tigers.

To date in 2008, he is on the roster and has played in 75 games.
Personal Marcus’ mother, Veterine, has been paralyzed since an auto accident when Marcus was five years old.
Marcus and his wife have a child, a girl they named Jade. He also has another daughter, Deja (born in 1997), from a previous relationship.
Thames served in the National Guard from 1994 to 1998.
He has been called “Slick” since he was four years old, when he got an overly-aggressive haircut.
