Career
Kotsay's journey began in college, where he shone as a standout player for California State University, Fullerton. In 1995, he clinched the prestigious Golden Spikes Award and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series, leading his team to victory. Drafted by the Florida Marlins as the ninth overall pick in 1996, he made his MLB debut in 1997 and quickly established himself as a reliable outfielder. By 1998, Kotsay became the Marlins' starting center fielder, later transitioning to right field where his exceptional throwing arm earned him recognition. He led the National League outfielders in assists in both 1998 and 1999.In 2001, Kotsay was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he returned to center field and continued to demonstrate his defensive prowess. His next move was to the Oakland Athletics in 2003, further solidifying his place in MLB history. In 2008, he joined the Atlanta Braves before being traded to the Boston Red Sox later that season to fill in for an injured player.
