Craig Hansen

Craig Hansen is a former professional baseball pitcher from the United States, best known for his time with the Boston Red Sox. Born on November 15, 1983, in Glen Cove, New York, Hansen made a name for himself with his impressive height of 6'6" and a solid weight of 230 pounds, throwing and batting right-handed.

College

Hansen honed his skills at St. John's University, where he played college baseball starting in 2003. His breakthrough came during his sophomore year, but it was his junior season in 2005 that truly showcased his talent. That year, he recorded a 3-2 record and notched 14 saves, striking out 85 batters in just 64 innings pitched. His remarkable performance earned him first-team All-American honors from Baseball America, solidifying his reputation as a top prospect.

Minor Leagues

In the 2005 MLB Draft, the Boston Red Sox selected Hansen with the 26th overall pick, signing him to a lucrative four-year deal worth $4 million. He quickly ascended through the minor leagues, joining the Portland Sea Dogs after a brief stint in Fort Myers. Hansen made his major league debut on September 19, 2005, against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, appearing in four games that season. However, his journey in the following years was marked by challenges.
