CC Sabathia’s smashing display led the New York Yankees to victory over Detroit by 2-1. The pitcher tossed seven shutout innings, while Alex Rodriguez and Melky Cabrera smashed away a home-run and a RBI respectively to assure the win for the Yankees. Marcus Thames’ solo shot in the eighth apparently didn’t do it for the Tigers.
Besides, Marc Rzepczynski let the Toronto Blue to a victory by 6-2 over the Boston Red Sox, which was his first career victory. Rzepczynski’s 6 innings of one-run ball and Adam Lind’s homer made up for 2 of the 6 runs given by Brad Penney in 5 innings.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 credit to Jermaine Dye’s 2-run homer and Mark Buehrle’s display of a single run in 7 1/3 innings.
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated Kansas City Royals 4-2 despite of Zack Greinke’s best of efforts. The pitcher let in just a single run in 7 innings after reducing his ERA to 2.08, while Willy Aybar played 4-for-4.
Other results saw the Seattle Mariners beat Cleveland Indians 3-1 though Franklin Gutierrez homer against his former side. Jarrod Washburn suffered only a run in 6 2/3 innings and David Aardsma got his 21st save.
