Rebecca Marino
Rebecca Marino is a professional tennis player, who ranked the World Number 38 last July 2011 in the singles division. While she was an active single-player, she won Female Player of the Year by Tennis Canada. In February 2013, she took an infinite break to study English literature at the University of British Columbia. In 2017, she announced that she intends to make a comeback, but it got delayed due to some administration regulations that she needed to comply with. In January 2018, she was granted a comeback and won her first title in the Antalya Open.
Personal Life
Marino was born in Toronto, Canada, and transferred to Vancouver when she was a baby. She came from a family of sportsmen like her uncle, George Hungerford, who had represented their country at the 1964 Summer Olympics in rowing. Her brother is studying at the University of California, Berkeley, and is part of the rowing team as well.Early Career
Marino debuted as a professional tennis player at the $25K event in Vancouver in 2005, however, she lost in the qualifying round. In 2006, she was one of the representatives for the Rogers Cup, but she was defeated in the first qualifying round. She earned her first ITF title at an event in Trecastagni as a single player, and 2 doubles titles at events in Evansville, Indiana, and Southlake, Texas.Her first WTA Tour was at the Challenge Bell and she successfully defeated Jill Craybas in the first round and lost to Galina Voskobova in the second round. By the following year, the farthest that she had gone was in the second round, where she lost to Julia Gorges.
Breakthrough Performance and Entering Top 50
Marino showed improvement as she entered the US Open, and defeated former World Number 4, Venus Williams. Her next challenge is during the Challenge Bell in Quebec, where she won against Heidi El Tabakh and Marion Bartoli. With her improvement in her performances, she reached the Top 38 as of July 2011.Tournament Results:
