Left-back Liberato Cacace scored for the second game in a row, just days after captain Steven Taylor praised him to the press, before Gary Hooper and substitute Jashua Sotirio wrapped up the three points.
But despite the margin of victory, Piscopo insisted that it wasn’t an easy 90 minutes on Sunday. He said: “The boys did good, it was great and it was important to get the three points away from home. It’s not easy playing those games and the result came and that’s the main thing.”
Value For Money
The summer signing managed to grab an assist for Hooper, but downplayed the significance of his contribution. Piscopo found himself in space and dinked a ball over the top for the former Celtic star, who made no mistake with his conversion.
Hooper was brought to the A-League to score the goals that were needed to fire the Phoenix to the play-off finals, and the Englishman is starting to deliver. Having an out-and-out finisher in the team makes things a lot easier, Piscopo added.
“When I turned I saw that I was free and I saw that Hooper was making the run, so I thought I’d hit it over into his path and let him finish and let him do what he does best.”
Multi-Threat
The first goal was made from a stunning Ulises Davila reverse pass into the path of Cacace and it proved that the Phoenix have a number of players who’ll hurt you at any given point. Davila leads the goals and assists chart with 12 and five, while David Ball has six goals and five assists, Hooper five goals and four assists and Sotirio three goals and three assists.
With such a varied threat across the side, its little wonder that Ufuk Talay’s men find themselves in third place and are well positioned to secure a home game in the finals play-offs.
