Dustin Poirier or Dustin Glenn Poirier is a professional mixed martial artist born on January 19, 1989. He is an American currently signed under the Ultimate Fighting Championship and competing in the lightweight division. As of February 2016, the professional fighter is ranked tenth in his division by the UFC. He also holds the title of Thugjitsu Master and is considered by many as one of the best fighters training under the American Top Team.
Poirier made his professional debut in 2009, when he was 20 years old. During that time, he compiled an impressive mixed martial arts record of 7-0 before signing under the World Extreme Cagefighting in mid of 2010. By October of that same year, he became part of the UFC because of the merger of WEC and UFC.
The 27-year old fighter stands 5 feet and 9 inches and comes with a 72-inch reach. He is nicknamed, “The Diamond” in mixed martial arts. His main styles of fighting include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and boxing. He boasts of a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an impressive mixed martial arts record which includes 24 fights with 20 wins and 4 losses. These wins include 10 by knockout, 6 by submission and 4 by decision.
In addition to his impressive mixed martial arts record, Poirier also earned several accomplishments in his career. Some of these include a one-time Submission of the Night, a two-time Fight of the Night and a two-time Performance of the Night under the UFC. He also earned a Fight of the Year award in 2012 from the ESPN MMA Awards. His latest fight was in June 2016 where he won over Bobby Green via knockout.
