Otherwise known as slog overs, death over refers to the final overs in a limited match. The batting side would often bat aggressively to gain more runs and increase their score. This will take place during the last five to ten overs of a team’s innings in a match.

How to Maximize More Runs in Death Over?

Throughout the last innings of the batting team, they would try to score as many runs as they can to maximize the time left in their inning. The batsman would resort to unorthodox methods just to hit sixes or score runs by hitting the ball towards the unprotected parts of the cricket field. The methods that these batsmen would use is either do a paddle shot or slogging. Since the goal is to score a lot of runs, good batting techniques are not observed during death over.

While the batting team is taking advantage of the death over by performing unorthodox batting techniques, the fielding team is forced to resort to defensive tactics. The fielding team will ensure that the batting team will not get as much run as they want to. They protect the batting team from scoring more runs by protecting the areas that are unprotected.

Preventing More Runs During Death Over

During death over, the batting team would take advantage of the remaining over by aggressively hitting the ball and earn as much as runs as they can. This is often the most difficult time for the bowlers to succeed. However, if a bowler believes in their ability to perform very well by delivering a bowl that prohibits the batsman in either hitting the ball or to hit for six, then the fielding team can prevent the batting team from gaining more runs. The bowler should avoid half-volley shots that enable the batsman to hit the ball. Instead, they can resort to slower delivery shots so that the batting team can avoid hitting the ball with enough force to hit for six.

Another way to prevent more runs during death over is the ability of the bowler to read the intention of the batting team. If the batting team has lower scores compared to the fielding team, their goal is to earn as many runs to either be on the leading team or at least aim for a draw. Hence, the fielding team should learn not to lower their guard and play a good defensive tactic to avoid the batting team to increase their score.
