History of Super Smash T20:
The Super Smash began in 2005-06 and was first called the New Zealand Twenty20 competition before changing its name to State Twenty20 for the next three seasons between 2006-07 to 2008-09. For the next five seasons it was known as the HRV Cup T20, before being called the Georgie Pie Super Smash, McDonald’s Super Smash and Burger King Super Smash respectively over the next three iterations.
In this manner, 13 editions of the Super Smash T20 have been played, with the following teams having always participated in the tournament.

What Happened in the previous Super Smash season:
Northern Knights won their second title by beating Central Stags in a one-sided final that was played at Seddon Park in Hamilton. The Stags were restricted to 99/8 from their 20 overs thanks to Anton Devcich’s three-fer before the Knights ran away with the game by nine wickets and just the ninth over. Devcich added on to his three-wicket haul with an unbeaten and a quickfire 51.
Earlier, the Knights finished the main season at the top of the table with 30 points from 10 matches, ahead of Auckland Aces (24) and Central Stags (22). This allowed the Knights a direct entry into a home final while the Stags and Aces featured in an Elimination Final. Batting first, Central Stags made 163/6 from their 20 overs with Dane Cleaver smashing a fifty, while Seth Rance finished the opposition off for 127, picking up three wickets in the process.
