Michelle Sutcliffe
Born on February 3, 1967, Michelle Sutcliffe is a female boxer from England. Along with German boxer, Regine Halmich, Sutcliffe is known as one of the boxers who made boxing popular in Europe.
She started her pro career in 1996 when she made her first world try on November 2, 1996. She went up to challenge Halmich for the WIBF World Flyweight title. Despite losing to Halmich with a second round knockout, Sutcliffe went on to face Para Draine on June 24, 1998. She again lost, defeated by a K.O. in the fight that was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Her first win came against Diane Berry on June 28. She defeated Berry after rounds by decision in the match that was held in England. On October 7, 2000, Sutcliffe again faced Halmich in Berlin, still gunning for the WIBF World Flyweight Championship. Although she proved to be a tougher fighter than she was during their previous meeting, Sutcliffe still lost after ten rounds. She had another opportunity to go after another world title, this time against Daisy Lang for the WIBF World Jr. Bantamweight title but again lost after 7 rounds in a technical decision. This was a controversial match since the referee ruled that a cut suffered by Lang was due to a headbutt. However, some spectators claimed that it was actually caused by a blow. Had it been ruled as due to a punch, Sutcliffe would have been declared the winner.
Sutcliffe stopped fighting in 2006 and currently holds a record of 5 wins, 6 losses and 2 wins by knockout.
