Hendrik Dreekmann
Born on January 29, 1975, Bielefeld, Germany, Hendrik Dreekmann is a German tennis player who turned pro in 1991. He attained his highest individual ranking at number 39 in the ATP on September 30, 1996. He has not won any singles or doubles titles in the course of his career although he has only missed a Grand Slam tournament once between 1994 and 1999. He is coached by Romanian Ion Geanta.
Dreekmann started playing at the age of six years old and won several juniors titles as a junior, among them the 14s, 16s, and the 18s divisions before turning pro. He also reached the 1989 junior championships held in Sofia and reached the semifinals at the 1991 Orange Bowl. He made his professional debut by playing in two Challengers and one Satellite. After getting into the top 100, he fell out of the rankings in 1995 but managed to get back in October. After suffering from an ankle injury in 1997 that left him unable to compete for several weeks in the season, Dreekmann won the Aachen challenger a year later in November. It was also during this year that he defeated then number 5 Carlos Moya in Halle.
He finished for the first time in the top ten in 1999 since 1993 and reached his first tour semifinals since 1996 in Hong Kong when he defeated Tarango before he was defeated by Andre Agassi who eventually captured the title. He also reached the quarterfinals in Munich.
He is married to former long jumper Susen Tiedtke whom he married on January 28, 2005.
