Anastasia Myskina
Born on July 8, 1981, Anastasia Andreyevna Myskina is the first female Russian tennis player to win a grand slam title. She is also the first Russian tennis player to reach the top 3 rankings in the history of the WTA just before winning the French open title in 2004.
Myskina started playing tennis professionally in 1998 where she broke into the WTA top 500 rankings. It was in Palermo and her second appearance in the main draw of a WTA, when she won her first WTA title. She also made her debut in a Grand Slam tournament at the Fed Cup and at the US Open. (Playing doubles) In 2000, she scored her first career Top 20 when she defeated Number 17 Barbara Schett in route to a Spot semifinal. She also debuted at Rolando Garros (where she won) and Wimbledon. She also participated in the Sydney Olympics and reached her first Tier I quarterfinal in Zurich, but unfortunately she lost to world number 1 Martina Hingis. Badly for Myskina, she had an injury that made her miss the Australian Open. This is incident caused her to fall out of the Top 100 rankings. Myskina still showed her strengths despite this, and was the first Russian to beat Anna Kournikova.
It was in September 2004, when Myskina reached a career high of No. 2. She has not been very visible and has not played tennis since 2007, and she has stated whether she will return or not. In 2008, April 28, she gave birth to her first child, a boy named Zhenya.
