Albert Gillis Laney was an American sportswriter who specialized in covering tennis and golf, but also wrote about other sports like baseball and boxing.
He was widely considered one of the leading American tennis journalists during the first half of the 20th century. For his contributions to the game, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1979.

Laney began his career as a correspondent for the New York Evening Mail.In 1924, he moved to Europe to work for the Paris Herald and later for the New York Herald Tribune. He covered major tennis events like Wimbledon and the Davis Cup.
After returning to the United States in 1930, he joined the Tribune's sports staff and wrote on a variety of sports. He retired in 1966 when the Tribune ceased publication.
