Professional Career

Grönefeld turned professional in April 2003. She won one singles title on the WTA Tour, the 2006 Mexican Open, and reached the quarterfinals of the French Open that same year.

Her greatest success came in doubles, where she won 17 career titles and achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 7 in 2006. She is a two-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion, winning at Wimbledon in 2009 with Mark Knowles and the French Open in 2014 with Jean-Julien Rojer.

She was part of the German Fed Cup team that reached the final in 2014. Grönefeld retired from professional tennis in December 2019.
