Rainer Schüttler is a German former professional tennis player who achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 5 and was the runner-up at the 2003 Australian Open. He also won an Olympic silver medal in doubles.

A semifinalist at the Wimbledon Championships in 2008, he won a total of four singles and four doubles titles on the ATP Tour.

Rainer Schüttler was born on April 25, 1976, in Korbach, West Germany. He stands 180 cm tall, and he plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. He began playing tennis at the age of nine and currently resides in Altstätten, Switzerland.

Professional Career

Schüttler turned professional in 1995. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 5 in April 2004. His best Grand Slam singles result was a runner-up finish at the Australian Open in 2003, and a semifinalist appearance at the Wimbledon Championships in 2008. He also reached the fourth round of the French Open and the US Open in 2003.

In doubles, he won an Olympic silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics with his partner Nicolas Kiefer. Schüttler also won four doubles titles on the ATP Tour and reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 40 in July 2005.

After his retirement in 2012, Schüttler transitioned into coaching and has worked with several top players, including Angelique Kerber and Janko Tipsarević.
