Florent Serra was born on February 28, 1981, in Bordeaux, France. He stands 180 cm tall and he is right-handed with a two-handed backhand.He started playing tennis at the age of seven, encouraged by his father at their local club. Serra completed his French “bac” with a major in economics before moving to Paris to participate in the national training program at Roland Garros. His mother worked as a secretary in Bordeaux, and Serra later established his residence in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

Serra played a limited junior schedule, reaching a career-high junior ranking of No. 437 in December 1999.Despite minimal exposure at the junior level, he demonstrated enough promise to join the professional circuit in 2000.
Career
Serra turned professional in 2000 and worked his way up the rankings through success on the ITF Futures and ATP Challenger circuits, reaching multiple finals and notching his first Challenger title early in his career.By 2003, he made his ATP Tour debut and became known for his work ethic and consistency.
His breakthrough year came in 2005, when he won his first ATP singles title at the Romania Open in Bucharest, defeating Igor Andreev in the final.
He followed this with a second title at the 2006 Next Generation Adelaide International, where he beat Xavier Malisse. Serra achieved his career-high ranking of No. 36 in June 2006 and was twice an ATP singles finalist, with a runner-up finish in Casablanca in 2009.
Serra’s best Grand Slam performances included reaching the third round of the Australian Open in 2010 and the French Open in 2008, as well as multiple second-round appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open.
In doubles, he reached the third round of the French Open in 2013 and the US Open in 2007, rising to a career-high ranking of No. 109.
He was coached by Pierre Cherret for most of his professional career and was known for his steady baseline play and competitive spirit. Serra retired from professional tennis in 2015.
