Carla Suarez-Navarro was born to sports-loving parents and was introduced to tennis when she was nine years old. She moved to Barcelona to train at the Pro-Ab Team Tennis Academy in 2007. According to reports, Suarez Navarro has expressed admiration for known sports legends Steffi Graff, Michael Jordan, Justine Henin, and more.

Suarez-Navarro turned professional in 2003 playing for the ITF Circuit in Spain. The following year, she won her first singles title in Mallorca, Spain and a doubles title win at Gexto, Spain. In 2005, she started working with the Spain Federation. She also took home an ITF singles title in Gran Canaria, Spain and a doubles title in Vittoria, Italy with Fisher.

In 2006, she claimed another ITF singles win at Valle de Lobo, Portugal. In 2007, she tried her hand at playing for the WTA Tour in Estoril as a wildcard and her first Grand Slam tournament at the US Open. She continued her streak at the ITF Circuit winning three singles titles in Melilla, Gran Canaria and Madrid as well as two doubles title at Petange, Luxembourg (paired with Yakimova) Vigo, Spain (with Cabeza Candela).

She started 2008 with a first round win against Italy in the Fed Cup World Group but was unable to qualify for the Australian Open. Suarez-Navarro reached the semifinals in a Tour singles main draw event. She continued playing for the Fed Cup World Group defeating China 4-1.

Suarez Navarro had her first Premier Mandatory Final at the 2015 Miami Open, which enabled her to enter the top ten of the world rankings. She won her first Premier 5 title at the 2016 Qatar Open.

So far, Suarez Navarro has a career record of 491 victories and 320 losses. Since turning pro, she has won 2 WTA and 6 ITF titles. She has yet to win a Grand Slam title, but has so far shown promise in her appearances in the tournaments.

Her best performance so far was reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open. Her most recent appearance at a Grand Slam tournament was in the 2018 Australian Open.

2016 was considered one of her best years, as she was able to reach her highest career rank at No. 6 on February 2016. As of January 2019, however, Suarez Navarro ranks at No. 25 in singles.
