Ruben Hidalgo
Born on January 6, 1978, Rubén Ramírez Hidalgo is a Spanish professional tennis player who turned pro in 1998. He began playing tennis at the age of eight.
Ramirez Hidalgo reached the second round at five Futures tournaments in Spain in the year he turned pro. A year later, he won at the Morocco 1 and 2 Futures and reached the semifinals at the Spain Futures. He repeated his performance at the 2000 Morocco 2 Futures, and was a finalist at the Morocco 3 and Romania 1 Futures. He played in the Challengers for the first time in 2001, where he compiled a 19-14 match record. He also won his first ATP match in Bucharest in the same year.
Ramirez Hidalgo made his Grand Slam debut in 2003 at the US Open, where he lost to Sanguinetti in the first round after five sets. A year later, the Spaniard made his debut in three other Grand Slams, but lost in the first rounds of each. He continued his performance in the Challengers, however, advancing to the finals in Zagreb Challenger in 2004 and 5 semifinals in 2005. The next year would prove to be better for the Ramirez Santiago. He ended the year ranked at 56 with 25 match wins and reached the fourth round at Roland Garros, his best showing in a Grand Slam. He finished in the top 100 for the first time in 2010, the same year when he won three Challenger titles in clay.
Ramirez Hidalgo reached a career high ranking of 50 in the ATP on October 2, 1996 and currently ranks 84, a ranking he achieved in November 2010.
