Rohan Bopanna
Rohan Bopanna, born on March 4,1980, is an Indian professional tennis player. He was born in Bangalore, India and he currently resides there. Bopanna started playing tennis at the age of 11 and he turned pro 2003. In 2006, he was ranked 27 for singles tennis. It was a career high for him. He reached 230th position for the ATP.
He reached the finals on his first ATP doubles game. He was paired with Prakash Amritraj. The pair lost to Michal Mertinak and Petr Pala. In the following June, he faced Roger Federer in Germany for the Gerry Weber Open, which was held in Halle.
In 2009, he qualified for the Chennai Open, but lost to the Main Draw in the first round. In 2010, he reached the quarterfinals of the Chennai Open doubles when he partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi. Also in 2010, he partnered with South African player Jeff Coetzee for the Open 13. The pair reached the semi-finals to Julian Knowle and Robert Linstedt.
At the Wimbledon Championship of the same year, Bopanna reached the quarterfinals when he partnered with Aisam Ul Haq Querishi. His Wimbledon standing was a surprise since he was the last Indian in the tour. With the same partner, for the 2010 US Open doubles, the pair finished in second place. They lost to the US team of Bob and Mike Bryan. That was the first time he reached a Grand Slam finals.
