Aisam-Ul-Haq Quereshi
Aisam-Ul-Haq Quereshi is a Pakistani professional tennis player. He is noted for having reached the semi-finals of the US Open doubles in 2010. In that same year, he also reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championship. As of the 2010 season, he is known for being Pakistan’s top tennis player. He is the only Pakistani player to ever reach the finals of a Grand Slam Tour.
Quereshi was born on March 17, 1980 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. He turned pro in 1998 and he is a right-handed player with a one-handed backhand. He is a top 30 doubles player and his highest ranking is 103rd on the ATP list. He is a former Asian No. 3.
He started playing at the age of 14 with his mother’s encouragement. She also served as his first coach. His other coaches include Robert Davis. As of 2010, he is coached by Rodrigo Nascimento. He has had his greatest successes when he played on the grass and on hard courts. He has a playing style of serve and volley.
In 2007, he was the 2nd Runner Up for that year’s Wimbledon. In 2008 he was the 1st Runner Up for the 2008 US Open. In 2003 and 2008, he was the 2nd Runner Up at the French Open Doubles.
In 2010, he was paired with Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna. Together the two reached the semifinals at the Wimbledon Championships. They also reached the finals at the 2010 US Open where they lost to an American team. In the same year he also landed 1R for the Aussie Open and 2nd runner-up for the French Open.
